The soft mutation

Here are the letters that mutate softly after the definite article 'y' if the noun that follows is feminine.

• cath > y gath (the cat)
• cadair > y gadair (the chair)
• dafad > y ddafad (the sheep)
• modrwy > y fodrwy (the ring)

Activity 2

The following feminine nouns need to mutate after the word 'y' (the). Write your answers on a piece of paper or digitally. The first one has been done for you.

• merch > y ferch (the girl/daughter)
• coron > y __oron (the crown)
• pabell > y __abell (the tent)
• tywysoges > y __ywysoges (the princess)
• brenhines > y __renhines (the queen)
• daear > y __aear (the earth)
