Watch light in a race against a rally car.
Commentator 1: This is very exciting!
There we see Dynamite Dream, a rocket powered racing car with a simply unbelievable top speed.
It's looking just amazing and it's raring to go…and…what exactly is that next to it Bob?
Commentator 2: It's a lamp Jim.
A lamp! Ha!
Well this isn't going to be much of a race!
It obviously doesn't stand a chance!
The lamp isn't racing, Jim.
Well…what the heck is racing then, Bob?
Light.
Commentator 1: Light?
Commentator 2: Yes, Jim.
The lamp is a source of light, just like fires or the sun.
When the lamp is switched on, light will come streaming out of it.
That's all a bit strange, Bob.
But if you say so!
And…oh Yes!
They're off!
Unbelievable!
Just look at it!
And how's your light doing, Jim?
On the way is it?
Commentator 2: It's already got there Jim.
Commentator 1: What?
What do you mean it's already got there?
It's already won.
A few seconds ago.
What? But how is that possible?
Light is the fastest thing in the universe Jim.
Light sources
A source of light makes light. The Sun and other stars, fires, torches and lamps all make their own light and so are examples of sources of light.
Some animals, such as fireflies and glow-worms, are light sources. They make their own light to attract mates.
