Winner: PATO BANTON In a long career in the music industry, Pato has used his music to reach out to parts of the local community which are often neglected. He is a great mentor and a real people's person. Runner Up: JAN ALAM (FRSA) He has devoted his adult life to promoting equality of opportunity for oppressed communities and is a pioneer in encouraging black people to choose Social Work or to become involved in mainstream politics. Winner: LHAMEA LALL An amazing singing talent who was bullied at her previous school. She has participated in an anti-bullying video and regularly performs at charity events, raising the profile of gun crime and drug abuse amongst young people.
Runner up: ABUSUFYAN ABDULLAH A hugely successful army cadet, who was part of the winning team in the first "Experience Pakistan" competition and nominated for a Windrush Award as a rising star in the uniformed forces.
Special Commendation: PHALDIP SINGH KHELA Phalidip is a Millennium Volunteer and has volunteered well over 400 hours, ranging from organising Awards Ceremonies for youngsters, mentoring younger students and setting up youth forums.
Winner: KHEMBE CLARKE Khembe has successfully helped to organise Birmingham's Black History Month and a Women's Conference, and gives advice, guidance, help, and motivation to her students at City College. Runner up: JOY TURNER Joy works to promote and raise awareness of black culture, encouraging people to use their talents in a constructive and positive way and not use drugs and alcohol. |
