IAIN: My mum nearly sent me to elocution lessons because when I lived in Bedfordshire, I had a very very broad Bedfordshire accent known as the Milton Keynes dialect. Now, I moved from Bedfordshire to Cheshire when I was 16; took all my southern vowels, picked up all the northern consonants and spoke the Queen's English for six months which is why when I've had a few beers I hark back to that. Erm, it has softened slightly. I do speak probably slightly better when I'm on the phone. But yeah, it's a combination of all sorts but you would never believe that my mum wanted to do that.
