One of the Black Country's most famous comedians will have his name put on the city's Walk of Stars.

Frank is a pleased man

Frank Skinner follows the likes of Julie Walters, Noddy Holder and fellow funnyman Jasper Carrot in being recognised with a Hollywood-style star on the city’s Broad Street.

Bragging about it

He said: "I am genuinely chuffed to get it. I really like the idea that people will say, ‘I’ll meet you at Frank Skinner’s tomorrow night!’

"I suppose I felt proud, it’s just a brilliant thing. I’m quite happy to be there with Noddy Holder and Ozzy Osbourne.

"I am still up here every other week for the football but it’s so ingrained in you and it never goes away.

"It’s ok to be proud about your people and I think it’s a good thing that Birmingham is bragging about it."

'Three Lions'

Born in West Bromwich and raised in Oldbury, the comedian changed his name to Frank Skinner as there was already a Chris Collins in actors’ union Equity. 

Skinner first performed stand up in 1987, going on to win the Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Festival.

He became one of Britain’s most loved comedians through shows like Fantasty Football and by performing the football anthem ‘Three Lions’.

Despite moving to London in 1991, Skinner keeps a flat in Harborne.

He added: "When I heard about the Walk of Stars anybody associated with this area with a bit of celebrity is going to think, ‘When do I get the phone call?’

"I know Adrian Chiles said to me, ‘I can’t believe you’ve got it first,’ and for no other reason I’m very happy about that!"

The comedian, who was presented with the honour on 1 August by Birmingham’s Lord Mayor, has already been granted the freedom of Sandwell.

He will also collect an honorary degree in September from the University of Wolverhampton.
