BBC WM Kidney Kids bike ride 2009

Phil Upton and 19 other cyclists have completed a 400 mile bike ride down the French coast to raise money for the Kidney Kids Appeal.

Phil, along with other dads from his home village of Claverdon in Warwickshire, left St. Malo on Wednesday 1st July.

They peddled for more than 400 miles down the French Atlantic coast, arriving in Bordeaux on Saturday 4th July.

The 20 strong group are no strangers to marathon bike trips, having travelled from Claverdon to Paris last summer. In August '08, they clocked up another 80 miles cycling around the West Midlands.

Phil and his team were sponsored for their French adventure and raised just over £10,000 for the BBC WM Kidney Kids Appeal, our campaign to buy a new kidney unit for Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Phil and team rode the 400 miles in soaring temperatures - but all managed to finish the ride.

Phil said: "I really appreciate everything sent in by listeners, especially in these times, to make children more comfortable during their dialysis sessions."

The BBC WM Kidney Kids Appeal has been running since July 2008.
