The countdown to Christmas officially began on Saturday 10th November at Millennium Point with the annual lights switch-on. See our photos!

Christmas lights and fireworks

Birmingham City Council estimates that over 40,000 people popped down to Millennium Point throughout the course of the day to witness one of Birmingham's favourite festive traditions.

Millennium Point was transformed into a vibrant arena of fun with hot food stalls fairground rides and a huge open-air stage, with the festivities beginning at 2.30pm.

Throughout the afternoon, fans were treated to performances from McFly, Leona Lewis, Scouting for Girls and indie-rock band Murdoch.

The Sugababes officially switched on the city's Christmas lights at 7.30pm moments before a spectacular fireworks display lit up Birmingham's skyline.
