BBC WM presenter Mollie Green has been travelling around Birmingham and the Black Country collecting mountains of donations from WM listeners. The 2007 BBC WM Animal Appeal is now over. Thanks to your generosity we're pleased to report that we've collected almost double the amount of donations compared to last year. ![]() Staff and visitors at Tettenhall library The response to the appeal in 2006 was incredible, the amount we collected far surpassed any expectations we had, in total we received over £30,000 worth of donations. For this year's Appeal, manufacturers had donated an estimated £50,000 worth of dog and cat food, before we had even started! The donations from this year's Animal Appeal were given to four of our local rescue shelters; Cats Whiskers in Great Wyrley The Retired Greyhound Trust – Perry Barr linked track Birmingham Dogs Home New Cramar cat rescue in Hopwood ![]() We filled up nicely last year! Mollie said: "We collected tins, biscuits, blankets and toys for both cats and dogs. You may have heard about the recent Parvo outbreak at Birmingham dog’s home which has meant that they have had to burn all of their stored blankets. "With over 150 dogs in their care, it’s a desperate situation. We really wanted to show them our support by donating as many quilts, blankets, towels and sleeping bags as we could." Mollie continued: "All of the rescue centres BBC WM supported are independently funded and rely on donations to stay afloat. The BBC WM Animal Appeal really did make a big difference.
