I'm Kylie and it's great to be working in Birmingham for Local TV. I've just come back from travelling around the world, before that I was working in Bristol as a broadcast journalist. I love getting out with my camera, meeting people and finding out what makes them tick. Remember that Local TV is for you so if there is a story you think we should be reporting then let us know. I'm from a very hot part of Australia, which is why I look absolutely freezing in this photo. I've been a journalist for 11 years and moved to the UK about three years ago. Being offered the chance to work on Local TV in Birmingham is special to me because my father was born here. He moved to Australia and became a journalist many years ago… Now I'm doing the same job in his birthplace, so it seems life has come full circle for the Haran family. I'm a Brummie born and bred and I love the city it's just such a fab place to live. A big part of BBC Local TV is to provide a platform to showcase the creative film making that is being made by groups and individuals across Birmingham, from short films, animations and dramas to video diaries and creative digital storytelling. My role as the content producer will be to work with local film makers, schools, colleges, universities, media groups, community groups and individuals encouraging people to submit their own films. My aim for BBC Local TV is to reflect the diversity and creativity of Birmingham. Ian Johnson | | Ian Johnson, video journalist |
I've worked for BBC News in the Midlands since 1983. Sadly this makes me rather a veteran in Local TV terms! I'll be based in my home city of Wolverhampton covering news stories, sport and feature pieces from the Black Country. I'm especially interested in your real-life stories of living and working in the area, so please get in touch with me and make news rather than just sitting down and watching it. And, I support Wolves, for my sins, so if you're a 'Boing Boing' Baggies supporter it would probably be help if you were especially nice to me on the phone. Hi! I'm the Faith Producer for Local TV in Birmingham and the Black Country. If you want to make a TV feature about your religion, faith or spirituality and how you live because of this, then I'm the gal you call. I have a camera I can show you how to use which you can then borrow and I'll be there throughout the editing so you know exactly what'll end up on screen. Your stories about faith… For too long there have been stories that simply don't reflect the reality of what people believe; this is a chance to redress that by making your own films. It's a really exciting project and it would be an opportunity for religious/faith and ethnical output like we've never seen before. Hope to speak soon! Mark Egan | | Mark Egan, video journalist |
I have been a videojournalist for the past three years working on news, sport and documentaries. Learning to film and edit myself means I can now cover a really interesting range of news stories, and produce much better holiday videos. I grew up predominantly in Germany and South Africa, where I studied journalism at Rhodes University. On returning to the UK I wormed my way into BBC Local Radio in Kent. I then defected from radio to television, which fortunately has led me to Local TV in Birmingham. Julie Peacock | | Julie Peacock, video journalist |
I'm an exiled Scot, but coming to Birmingham is something of a trip back home for me. I did my training here at UCE so it's great to be back in Brum. I've just come from working in London, so its really nice to live in a place where people talk to each other for a change... so, don't hesitate to come up and tell me about stories the stuff going on in your area. I'm an Ayrshire lass who has somehow managed to make it this far south of the wall! So of course I eat haggis, stovies and fried mars bars on a regular basis. I'm a bit of an outdoor girl - paragliding is my first love. There aren't many hills for me to fly off in Birmingham though - so I've been exploring some of the surrounding countryside. I also kayak a bit. I've been working as a reporter in Cumbria for the last few years - so Birmingham is a bit of a change. I'm loving the city so far - but I'm looking forward to you telling me even more about it! |
