One time when Baba Ji was walking in a public area, I witnessed two small boys and their mother accidentally bump into Baba Ji. He turned around immediately to apologise to them and ask them if they were allright as well as put his arm around the boys in his fatherly way. | "Being better individuals is what will help bring peace and unity to the world. It was not an aggressive bump, far from it, however, the love, care and concern Baba Ji showed left me amazed. This small incident left me thinking it was them who had bumped into Baba Ji and yet he was the one to apologise and ask them how they were. Secondly, these boys and their mother were strangers as far as I was concerned but Baba Ji had treated them like his own. Unconditional love... This is an example of how Baba Ji practically teaches us how to live as a good human being on the path of devotion. This is possible as Baba Ji opens our eyes to ignorance and shows us how every person, be they Black, White, Asian, Muslim, Christian, Atheist etc should be loved equally. This is the foundation upon which the Sant Nirankari Mission is built; that we are all one. It is this Universal Brotherhood, which I have grown up with. You may wonder how is such love possible when people don’t love back or when such people are strangers to you and don’t believe in the same things as you believe in. The answer is given simply by Baba Ji. We are expected to be tolerant towards others’ views and love them regardless of how they act towards us. Such unconditional love and ability to treat every person as our “own” family member only comes when we are able to see the common thread i.e. the common denominator between all mankind. This unconditional love comes from knowing God, which is unconditional love in itself. Baba Ji has blessed me with God enlightenment, which has helped me see everyone as my own. Whenever I see Baba Ji, I am reminded of his wise words, his concern for all mankind in how to be happier individuals by being more loving, accepting, forgiving and caring towards others. How does Baba Ji affect me in my daily life? With friends at university, I have the urge to be the peacemaker whenever misunderstandings arise. My friends at school would always mock me saying how I was convinced that the whole world could live as one big happy family. My views were based upon first hand experiences, having seen this happy family Baba Ji has made in the Sant Nirankari Mission. At home I try to see my parents and younger brother as devotees of Baba Ji and give them the same respect that Baba Ji gives them. Learning to be a better human being... Overall, realising God, the truth, the source of love from Baba Ji has enabled me to pray for others in times of need as well as thank God for their successes as well as my own. In that way, I am always living within God. In fact, Baba Ji’s love and way of life is what has and will continue to change me to become a better human being.
