new players needed not new ground
Scott Graham
Great idea but for now we need to concentrate on spending our money wisely if we go back up meaning getting good quality to keep us up and establishing ourselves as a premier league side
frenchy
good idea for when we was in the premiership but not now because we are in the champion ship and we will not be able to fill the football stadium thats the only problam :)
Coggers
Very good idea the clubs moving one step closer every time, even though the ground will be hosting championship games next season its still hear it one of the most intimidating places to visit just imagine 38,000 loyal royals packing in most weeks!!! CUMMON URZ!!!!
Dave van Davebergen
HAHA doesn't look like you'l be filling your ground next season how it is.
Adam
good idea but there is not a lot of parking but it will be good and i think we may go down
Dean
Why the fuss about parking??? When it gets those extra stadiu seats, the cars can park on them, as they wont get filled with people.Call it a drive in if u like.
ron
how come this website says 38,000 capacity, the official one says 30,000, what is going on????
loyal royal
it wont happen, no expansion, no parking.
MK John
Ours is 32,000 at MK Dons, much superior to mad stad.
Dylan Cornwell
go for it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!cum on u royals
Johnny Bravo
Great idea, more fans!!need more car parking space though
fraser
now we are being told it is a 30,000 stadium on the official website, sounds like COLD FEET to me, it will never happen.
John
Might not be such a good thing for London Irish, though. 10,000 or so of us already rattle around in a half-full stadium.
Danny
Why are people moaning!! its better than rotherhams ground!!
Stephen
i think its great idea but why not expand the parking thats what i wanna know
adharv
it looks classic man
O,Nandy
Grand idea, the extra seats will be filled by the west Cork royals, the bhoyos from Skibbereen.
Tom
I like it - excellent planning while taking into account leaving the west stand as it is. it doesn't look as odd as, say, St James' Park does.Would be good for any forthcoming International fixtures or tournaments.Shame about the lack of parking expansion. They'll have to do a marvellous job on the buses in that case, which doesn't bode wellGood looking stadium though - let's just hope it fills!
Charlie
This gonna be great for building the Reading Brand-there are loads of people like me who support Chelsea but would love to beable to actually get ickets to see the Ding-if Reading want to be seen as a serious Prem Club thena 24k stadium just won't cut it
craig
cool picture but it needs to be bigger
Matt
The home end is sold out every week. we need an increase in capacity to grow as a club. Geographically we have massive potential as Reading is huge, not to mention fans coming from Basingstoke, Newbury, Wokingham, Henley, Bracknell, Slough etc. Give it a couple more seasons and we'll get 35,000 a week average with 38,000 for the big games.
Dave
We dont fill it atm so why are we planning on extending it? Week in week out we have had around 2000 seats empty. is mr madejski really being sensable??
Jack Blackburn
Awsome Stadium! ! !
Graham Naylor
Providing sufficient car parking for the existing capacity, never mind a greater one, should be the first priority, and the boneheads at Reading Council should not have allowed construction without this in the first place. On the other hand, Reading probably won't remain in the premiership for much longer so extra capacity won't be needed.
Sam
I think its a great idea, the Royals being in the top league is creating more new fans, plus if the extention is built many people are going to want to see it so i think there will be sell outs at most games. go for it!
tarquin
I live in north whitley, i am worried that our area will be swamped with cars, just like southern whitley, cant the stadium stay that size???
tim
get it built john
Aran Long
did someone mention pies?!?!? count me in.
Steph
I think the parking may be a problem, but hey, you have to think big to be big, come on u royals!! By the way, i live in east Fleet.
Mitch
As a Reading fan I feel that this is a bad idea. We will sell out for the big games (man who, Chelolski, Liverpool and Arsenal) but on other games such as the one on saturday (Wigan) where we had 4000 seats spare the atmosphere will be dead and half the ground will be empty. Great looking stadium tho
Vida
i have been to Reading, but not to the mad stad yet, i live in Harrow, i think its a great idea, and i support chelsea.
Goodwin
In order for Reading to maintain the confidence required to murk the prem the will need more supportesrs home and away. As the current 24,000 seater fills quite easilly the club will have to extend the capacity in order for the club to reach its' full potential. PS. I am not really a nerd.
East Hook possie!
Great looking stadium, Not as nice as Murrel greens stadium.
kristian
i think it is brilliant
Nay Nandy
And your point is Riss?? what has slough got to do with expansion of the mad stad,i am sure we have plenty of support from people in the village of Slough.
Riss
i used to live in Slough, but i live in woodley now, thats not part of little Reading.
Nay Nandy
If we think big, we will be big.Reading is a huge town, we have a potentially large support.
Riss
all this talk of enlarging the mad stad, not seen any evidence of work starting yet, just like when it was built, it was printed in our local paper that due to the special construction of the stadium, any improvements could be done and completed during a summer break from football. dont hold your breath on anything guys.
McNandy
I think Glasgow Rangers are bigger than Reading FC.
Kyle Findlay
It needs to be bigger we are a big club so we need to fit in all our fans... AND THERES A LOT OF THEM
Nay Nandy
So that we can encorouge more fans to see the royals Jon.
Jon
I'm a Reading fan and we currently don't fill our stadium, so why would we want to increase it by almost %100. It would be very silly of the club to do this expansion.
Daneee
i am a millwall fan and i think that the stadium exspansion is a good idea but how much is it going to cost?
lee
plans look good.i still dont think they will fill it.
stephen
Yea great idea, make sure parking is sorted out so people don't get parking tickets!!!! but it's looking good, im a first aider there so it great!!
charlie ilsley
why are there big holes bye the west stand.??????
READING 4 LYF
i think around 32,000 would be better because otherwise there would be lots of empty seats.
willefc
they don't even fill their stadium now
Stan_efc
NO WAY, would reading fill 38,000 no offence, but if this happened, reading would just be another Boro or Blackburn with lifeless and what seem half empty stadia on a match day
Jonathan
is it really the mad stad????
eljay
won't keep the whitley whiff out though !
Paul Mac
So is celtic park, but it does not make Mad stad look ordinary, it is unique and is a fantastic stadium, so dont be so critical.
Lewis Carthy
Its great to see Reading FC trying to compete with the elite force of football, of course that is where we want get to. But, they NEED to sort out the transport out, e.g. more buses, bigger car park, a new rail link. But the new MadStad looks beautifull and can't wait untill it all goes ahead. COME ON UUURRRZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
steven
old traffords better
misty from plymouth
im an argyle fan, good on ya reading touve done well to reach the premiership and now your getting a 38000 stadium capacity and your pushing for europe the future looks bright for reading! p.s. green army!!!
URZ
Thats because it's not Old Trafford.
CRISTIANO RONALDO
It looks rubbish compared to Old Trafford
paul mac
Stop talking twaddle bomber!
Bomber
Why ??? You never fill it anyway !!!! Where are you gonna get 12,000 + fans from.
richard radley
Its ambitious can only be good for the club, its the way forward, think big, parking will be an issue, nice 1 Mr jm.
Trevor Absolom
We need this expansion faster than ever. We could easily be filling 32,000 as it is and European football is a real possibility.
Please don;t hold back the plans, and lets get this east stand redevelopment build as fast as possible.
Joe whittall
I think this is great for the royals but the parking will be terrible and i hope the season tickets are not all bought up at the start of the new season. COME ON URZ!
Rich
Can't wait for it to be built. Its going to look the shizzal. I can remember being at the division 2 play off final, I did'nt think this day would come any time soon. They deserve to have a stadium that matches there performance. They need have out off town parking and palk and ride because the trafic is horrific on a match day.
Lee Stunt
Looks great, I hope the pies improve because I lovvvvvvve pies.
Phil Stone
Great News for the club, supporters and for Reading, but please sort out the parking - a deal with Green Park or something?
Paul Mac
Super idea for the mad stad, parking? well, let the folk who need to get there by car drive, the rest of us can walk from the town centre, surely every vehicle on match day is not necessary.
zain
its amazing evry game is sold out so its much better for 12-16 thousand more seats
caylam
itz gona be a wicked stadium
better than stamford bridge
come on ur royals
James
Stadium extension is great news but we really must secure suitable parking.
Tony
This is great for the club and town but car parking is a big issue HP invent car park has just closed 1000 spaces lost just this week next home game traffic will be terrible
james smith
i think extending the stadium is a great idea and the players will get more support im only 12 but i have suppoted them all my life
Jonathon Sandiford
I'm a Royals fan, born and bread Reading and it's still sinking in how far the club has come in such a short time. I think the expansion of the ground is a fantastic idea. I might be able to see a game then. the plans are fantastic!
Richard Best
Looks awesome. Can't wait. It is proof the the Royals have fully arrived in the big time. Also I think that by not increasing parking they are encouraging people to car pool or take the park and ride, which is a good thing in my eyes. CMON URZ
Horrace
need the same roof the whole way round
Jules - Maidenhead
Back in the good old 'bad old days' at Elm Park, we couldn't believe we'd have or need a capacity of 24k at the Mad Stad. How times have changed! I don't get too many opportunities to watch the Rs anymore due to work/family, but this will definately make it easier if I can buy a ticket the day before like I used to. There's a lot of people like me who can't commit to aseason ticket - we always knew the Thames Valley had potential, now we're realising it finally!
Carl Udry
Road Infrastructure around ground? Currently very poor Car Parking? Again, currently very poor Season Ticket Prices? Will they rise to cover cost? Will plans be shelved if we seem likely/or do get relegated prior to work being started? Can one of the stands be called the Carl Udry stand? ;-) Good Luck on the project! CMON U URZ!!!!
Andy Nash
i thinks it will be great as it will let new fans come and watch theone and only super Reading FC
Steve
Great looking stadium for European football!
Tom Cotton
I've supported RFC for all my life and i think being in the premiership has upped our popularity, and i think it looks really good
Nicola
The expansion is fine, just sort out the parking. The situation at the moment is ridiculous with far too little parking at the stadium causing complete mayhem in the streets of lower earley whenever there is a match.
Derek Austin
I'm a Reading Exile and the expansion means I will be able to attend a few games ! Great go for it. What about Reading Corporation coming up with a new tram plan a la Manchester ? Perhaps Mr Madjeski could make this a new world wide business venture e.g Sportram inc. 'Game for transport ?..transport for teh Game .. ' or something liek that .
Stephen Warren
I think that the west stand roof should look exactly the same as the north, east and south stands as it will make the stadium look better. If the roof is different then it isn't going to look as attractive as it does now.
pete
i think its good
Robert
No increase in parking ?**!?
It is already a nightmare getting to work anywhere around the ground when a game is on .!
Simon Jordan
Is it April 1st already? Surely this has to be a joke as the stadium was NEVER full last season when the team was doing well. To have thousands and thousands of empty seats would not do much for a stadium with a lack of atmosphere.
Rebecca Giles
I have no views on the expansion of the stadium but I feel that there should be better information provided about forthcoming usage at the stadium (ie a noticeboard which states times and dates when the stadium is being used). There is a board for Reading FC and London Irish but it is difficult to read as you drive past and it does not cover other uses, for instance, Red Hot Chili Peppers and England under 21 games. Traffic at J11 is completely clogged for miles and it would ease congestion if I knew when the stadium would be busy - I could go home a different route.
Rob
I think the new stadium looks awesome! I would love to see this built
Chris in Hove
Go for it - I wish in brighton we had the vision to do something similar - good luck and will visit you in the premiership in 5 years :)
Graham Holliday
I think the plans to expand the MadStad. are great news for the town, for Reading FC but not perhaps such good news for London Irish. Cannot see their tenancy at MadStad being extended after the expansion and if Royals stay up this season then having them use stadium as well cannot be good news for the pitch in particular - much though I like watching the Exiles. the I hope that the stadium expansion will see a commitment from the club from Railtrack and Borough Council to get Green Park station built pdq as the shuttle buses to Reading main line are a nightmare on the return journeys in particular. Lets hope that the stadium expansion doesn't coincide with Royals doing a Sunderland or Leeds.
Jon Sutton
I work near the ground and have visited as an away fan a number of times. The current traffic / car parking systems cannot cope with their current level of support. Also Reading were (before the promotion) quite poorly supported, will this number of seats really be required after the initial interest has subsided ?
Matt
I dont get to go much due to work. But looking at these plans i can not wait to see the finished product it will but us up there with some off the best stadiums in the country and that will help us to build a team to compete with the best in the country. And please dont let the same people who did wembley do it come on you URZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!
David Hailstone
Looks great but we need to get serious about the transport links between the stadium and Reading centre. The site of a red bus full of Manchester Utd supporters last month trying to climb out of the windows just demonstrates that a few buses are not the answer.
mal rimmer
At the moment as the half-time whistle blows i just about have enough time to que for my pie & pint and swiftly finish both before the start of the second half, sometimes with the last few mouth-fulls of pie consumed back in my seat. My concern is, with the increased ground capacity, I will spend longer queing for my refreshments thus leaving precious little time to finish my pint.
This put a-side I think the plans look fantstic and will give more of a chance of seeing the royals in action to those who are not lucky enough to own a much sought after season ticket. from
mal-rimmer05@yahoo.co.uk
Simon Dunning
I think this is a great idea, but why stop at 38,000 why not make it 50,000 now instead of adding more seats in ten years time.Go Royals.
Philip @ Petersfield
The main current problems at the Madejski are the M4 junction (adds half an hour to the journey) and inadequate parking!!
These definitely need sorting before expansion is a realistic option.
benno
I LIKE IT ALLOT ITS A GOOD IDEA.
Barry Webb (New Zealand)
I think expansion is a great idea, and necessary for teh club to grow, coupled with an on-going community use facility. Parking is an issue, and needs serious consideration, along with any improved public transport facilities
greg.phillips@fndc.govt.nz
here we go, here we go, here we go
Greg Davies
the stadium looks great, but the transport links and car parking MUST be addressed first. I work in basingstoke, live in Reading, and driving the 30 minute journey home when a weeknight match is on takes me from 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 hours. How long will it take me to drive home if 38,000 are making their way to the ground instead of the current 22,000? Upgrading the stadium without doing anything about the transport links/car parking is utter, utter madness.
Rhys Honor
Having supported the Royals since the days of Elm Park, I am immensely excited to see the beautiful Madejski Stadium is looking to expand. Reading has a team and stadium to be proud of and 38000 is a good solid number for the coming years. Located in Whitley there is nothing in the area which should be affected by this expansion. We should embrace it and welcome the massive revenue increases this would bring the town and the club and the ability to continue the success we are seeing.
BARRY GREGORY
If we are to survive and go forward we wiil have to expand, however to expand and not increase parking is stupid and fallhardy as parking is already at it's maximum in and around the stadium. Where are the extra cars going to park.
Scott Clark
I work directly across the street from the stadium. On game days it can take me almost 2 hours to get from my office to J-11 over the M4 (less than 1/2 mile) because of the complete grid-lock. This will be a disaster for anybody that has to go past the stadium unless the Junction/A39 are sorted out.
Neil Warren
I agree with Nigel Howe when he says that the stadium should be a focal point for the community. As a local, I'm really quite pround of it. The new plans for the stadium expansiopn look terrific. These are very exciting times for Reading. However, the car parking issue needs to be addressed - why are none available on Green Park ?
Dan Somers
If the royals are to survive in the premiership they need a larger capacity stadium to increase revenue and hopefully attract better players. So this is the right way forward. I just hope its funded correctly and will not effect team rebuilding.
Pete
I think we need to see some plans for the suggested rail link before the expansion, as traffic's already at breaking point!
sanj
Although I'm not a Reading fan, the plans do look impressive and ambitious. However, the main issue/concern I'd have is that the improvements are only worthwhile if Reading remain in the premiership. Pre-xmas 2005, the crowds were around the 11k mark. This represents Reading's loyal fanbase. Also, the fact that this is Royals' first season in the prem means that there's more demand than ever before. This may subside slightly next season. I think upto 30k is more than enough. It's also worth mentioning that a half-empty stadium generates even less atmosphere.
Michael Anthony Tracy
A great idea but, having sat in my car outside the stadium from before kick off until well into the second half of the Man City game, you must address the problem of parking and traffic management. The traffic needs to be controlled.
mark newman
sell out crowds since joing the premiership brill!!! however parking has become rediculous. It can only get worse !!!!!
