Hello MaggieAs you're always out & about PLEASE could you spare some time to start The Bracknell & District Alzheimer's Memory Walk at Wellington College, Crowthorne on Sept 13th. This will be part of the National Alzheimer's Memory Walk with all money raised locally going to the local branch. This is the first time the Bracknell Branch have organised a sponsored walk. Last year over £400,000 was raised throughout England. The money raised will be spent on the respite facility we provide to enable carers to get a break while the sufferers are provided with stimulating activities, outings & lunch. We also hold monthly Carers Lunch & Support Group Lunch where current and past carers can chat & support each other. These activities often include a speaker. All the activities in the Bracknell Branch are run entirely by volunteers. I do hope you are able to be there as I know that many of our members & fundraisers will recognise your cheerful voice. Perhaps you could even get a group together from Radio Berkshire to join in the walk & the other fun day activities we are putting on!!!! I was listening this morning to your interview with trail junkies. I was upset, though not surprised, to hear the lady say that riding on trails was so safe you didn't need to be constantly aware of traffic etc. Well actually a lot of the trails are in fact bridleways used by horses who get very frightened when faced with fast cyclist bearing down on them or coming out from the hedgerows.I am an experienced rider, competing Nationally, but I suffered one of the worst falls ever last year when two cyclist came down a bridlepath flat out with no warning.Thanks to so many organised trail rides, like the one you were advertising for the coming weekend, it is no longer safe to ride our local bridleways at weekends and we have to ride on the roads which are actually safer.Some cyclists are aware and considerate but unfortunately the majority ride too fast and use bridleways without consideration for other users whether pedestrians or riders.In fact the cyclist who caused me to be body boarded to Royal Berks were amazed to see horses, they were not aware that horses used Bridleways.I would be grateful if we could open up this topic before someone really gets hurt. We should all be able to enjoy the countryside by behaving responsibly with regard for other users.Goring on Thames

HI Maggie,A short time ago you had a tennis lesson at Slough Tennis Centre, the council are now trying to close the centre and turn it into a bowling alley, we are a community, we have barbecues, we take in nibbles at Christmas, and by the way we are keeping fit. We have indian shops we have polish shops our schools are now single religions they are going to build single sect playcentres what about community. The Tennis centre is there for all we are a community no matter what religion or race you are, a bowling alley is not going to make anyone fit. Any support in helping us fight the closure would be appreciated.Thank you.

Thanks for the reply Maggie, yes our ancesters also came from Mayo probably we all go back to the great Patrick or Thomas they were apparantly very prolific breeders of the line.My grandfather Edward worked in the Cheshire salt mines before moving to Manchester where he died in March 1945.I am expecting to make a first trip there with my eldest son Paul, his fiesty daughter Zoe is all fired up to make seige to our castle and the thousands of acres of Philbin land on the Wild West coast.

Later on in the day they will go on display for two weeks around the village and visitors can come along and try to guess which cartoon or nursery rhyme character they depict. I work as a volunteer at the children’s hospice and am organising a fundraising event (Families4Naomi), to take place on the afternoon of Saturday 8th September at a private flying club just outside Aldermaston Village. I’ve put a lot of effort into setting up an afternoon which includes live music, craft stalls, BBQ, beer tent, face paints, pottery painting – and more.I’m currently working on promoting the event and of course everything now depends on getting people through the gates. So far sent press releases to local papers and some radio stations have been sent out.I know you are a very busy lady, and see that you are currently promoting a Tomorrow’s World event in USA, but wondered if there’s anything you would be able to do to ‘encourage’ people to come along. Hi Maggie, our community group, pinkneys green community forum are holding our 4th family fun day on aug 18th in oaken grove park,maidenhead, it starts at 11 there are stalls rides refreshments, music, and an adult 6 a side football tournament, we are supported by the local agencies, as we initially set up to encourage more action on vandalism and petty crime and now have more of a community social side we organise trips to the cost and places of intrest and weekly social noghts for the community where people meet to chat play bingo and have tea and cakes, would you care to attend the funday and present the winners trophies, it would be such a boost to our group.
