The Shake

The Shake

Faye Hurst's soulful vocals certainly takes centre stage in The Shake's music, which combines her dusky voice with melodic retrofied sounds. Find out more about the Newbury-based band below. Listen to an audio clip on the right.

THE SHAKE ARE:

  • Faye Hurst - vocals
  • Clive Drew - guitars
  • Rog Green - bass
  • Joost Hendrikx - drums

Combining the style and poise of the Small Faces, the energy and DIY ethic of the Libertines and the tunes of Arthur Lee & Love, The Shake have done more in the last eight months than most bands do in a year, - recording not one, but two EPs (including their latest with Ed Deegan of The Cribs and Holly Golightly fame), receiving airplay on London's XFM with their track 'All The Rage', recording a live session for internet radio station CMP and sharing stages with high profile bands such as Thee Unstrung, Miss Black America and Milburn.

The Shake

The band are now on the look out for a record and management deal, and have been gigging intensively during recent months including dates at highly regarded venues such as the Leicester Charlotte and the 600 capacity Newbury Corn Exchange, picking up several rave reviews and new fans in the process...

"Like a 60s garage band stealing the lead singer of a Motown girl group" - Allmanna 'zine

"Nay, you - the music lover - deserve to hear The Shake."

Lead singer of a Motown girl group? That is going a bit too far. Her voice is interesting and potent, but a bit flat and bored. That is a pity as that track could have been great with a more believable singer. Nice riff though.

Mel
Yeah, the Irish bloke version are much better.

Sophie Fraser
This band have an original and enthusiastic approach, angsty female fronted vocals captivate the audience and the band show tight musicianship. I’m sure this is a band that will grow over the next six month into something big locally. A pleasure to have play.

Pete
Time to listen to a likely band with talent in their hands This is real so surreal I can taste the sweat in the front row stands of this so likely band...

Matt
This band are fantastic....the first single is brilliant...forget all the hype about baby shambles, The Immediate actually turn up to their gigs and then they put on a fantastic show...this band is the reason we listen to music!

claire
I saw another band on MTV2 called The Immediate - they were all boys
