***This gig is now completely sold out. However, 6 Music is giving tickets away on its website (www.bbc.co.uk/6music) from Friday 28th January. That will be the only way to get tickets for this show. *** It's only the beginning of the year and already the Fez club can boast one of the most exciting gig line-ups of 2005. The club in Gun Street has teamed up with BBC 6 Music to bring you Bloc Party, The Magic Numbers and Reading's own Morning Runner. The hat trick of bands are all tipped for greatness this year having already made waves in 2004. Now they'll be performing for 'Lamacq In The City'. Some live tracks will be played out in Steve's 6 Music show on Sunday 13th February starting at 2pm. | | You can win tix to the sold out show on 6 Music |
Bloc Party emerge from the New Cross anti-scene, a creative collection of musicians and industry bods who help each other out in a two-fingers gesture to music's commercial world. Their taut early Cure sound and incendiary art skool rock performances have earned frontman Kele Okereke and his compadres a huge underground following. There's an anti-mainstream uprising going on, and at the helm is Bloc Party. So much so that the London quartet have been dubbed 'the future of music'. The Magic Numbers are Heavenly's newest signing. They've just finished touring with labelmate Ed Harcourt and completed a sell-out residency at London’s Borderline. The Anglo-American foursome, (two boys, two girls) have been hailed as the new Mamas and the Papas because of their peaceful harmonies. And from their country-folk Belle and Sebastian-style songs comes the infectious happiness akin to the Polyphonic Spree. | | Morning Runner @ the Face Bar, Reading |
Reading’s Morning Runner have been likened to an edgier Coldplay and have been named as one of The Guardian’s bands to watch for 2005. Signed to Parlophone, the band deliver a racy blend of indie pop and rolling rock, topped off with frontman Matt Greener’s distinctive raspy voice. Relentless gigging around the country has given them a steady following and their talent has landed them a recording deal with Parlophone. They'll be getting into the studio with legendary producer John Cornfield in February. The evening is being broadcast live on 6 Music and its host will be none other than Steve Lamacq. Get down there if you possibly can.
