This week, the biggest news from the world of UFC doesn't come from the octagon but from Derrick Lewis's pick-up truck.

With the city of Houston, Texas suffering the effects of Hurricane Harvey, proud Houstonian and UFC heavyweight star Derrick Lewis stepped in to help.

Ordinarily he's known for his sense of humour, close-to-the-knuckle Instagram game, and when he's fighting, his devastating ground and pound. But this week we saw Lewis also possesses a heart of gold as he took to the flooded streets in his huge pick-up truck to help stranded families out of danger.

And while he was tweeting with his tongue firmly in his cheek, his fight will certainly be worth a look, as the former kickboxing superstar makes his UFC debut later this year.

UFC stars take to Twitter to comment on McGregor

A host of UFC stars took to social media to share their take on Conor McGregor’s performance following his 10th-round TKO loss to Floyd Mayweather on Saturday night.

McGregor may not have won the fight, but he certainly won people’s respect. Even a pair of former McGregor foes weighed in with messages of support.

Current featherweight champion Max Holloway, who lost to McGregor in 2013, tweeted:

And former lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez, who lost his belt to McGregor at Madison Square Garden last November, echoed that sentiment, tweeting: “Tips your caps To @TheNotoriousMMA" while also commenting that it was a "great show for the world of MMA".

But a pair of Brazilian UFC stars took a different tack, instead choosing to seemingly mock the defeated Dubliner.

Jose Aldo, whose decade-long undefeated streak was snapped in just 13 seconds by McGregor at UFC 194, simply tweeted a row of laughter emojis...

While former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, whose title fight with McGregor fell by the wayside due to an injury to the Brazilian, posted on Instagram to say he and the Irishman had unfinished business and ‘The Notorious’ one had a “#chickenheart”.

Battle of the giants in Rotterdam

And finally, this weekend we get back into the swing of UFC with the octagon landing in Rotterdam for UFC Fight Night: Volkov v Struve.

While the fight card may not offer the sort of stellar headliner we saw in Las Vegas last week, there’s no denying it’s a match-up of some scale.

Alexander Volkov usually towers over his opponent, with the Russian standing at a rangy six feet seven inches. But he’ll be looking upwards on Saturday night when he takes on colossal Dutchman Stefan Struve, who stands seven feet tall.

No wonder they call him The Skyscraper.

Struve is looking to fight his way towards the top of the division and potentially face off against reigning heavyweight champion of the world Stipe Miocic, who he finished via TKO in Nottingham five years ago.

A couple of Brits are also competing at the event. Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards and Darren Till, who are both set for welterweight action at the event.

Edwards takes on USA's Bryan Barberena, while Till faces off against Bojan 'Serbian Steel' Velickovic.
