We've finally reached the Endgame, with the hugely-anticipated new Avengers film smashing box office records on its opening run.
The fourth Avengers film - and the 22nd in the massively successful Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) - broke the $1bn (£770m) box office barrier after just five days, beating its predecessor, last year's, Avengers: Infinity War, in the process.
It's gained the acclaim of critics too, with the Guardian, external hailing its "unconquerable brilliance" and the Sun, external calling it a "sprawling epic... done exactly as you’d hoped". Of course, Marvel characters aren't just restricted to the MCU - the likes of X-Men and Fantastic Four have made the leap to the big screen over the years too, via other standalone films.
