Gramps is playing on the Wii when Kuljit, Sway and Mani walk in. Shirley has a quiet word with Kuljit, if she’d had a bit of notice, she would have got some proper food in. Kuljit explains that Mani has been all over the place since Mushtaq died and now he’s digging things up from the past about some one who did him wrong and wants revenge.
At lunch, Mani decides to tell everyone the reason why he is in London. Mani plays them a song, Kuljit recognises it as Mani’s big hit. Mani explains that he never received a penny from it; Carter made it his big hit.
Mani recalls meeting Carter at an aftershow party. He liked him but then again, Mani says he liked everyone in those days; he was just making the most of the lifestyle, especially as he didn’t have much money. He became firm friends with Carter. Carter was in a band at the time but decided to form a band of his own which became successful so they lost touch. It wasn’t until one day when Mani was sitting in a café that he heard his song on the radio and it was by Carter’s band. Mani tried to get in touch with Carter but he wouldn’t return his calls.
Gramps approaches a tearful Mani outside. Mani recalls a sense of belonging back then but when Carter betrayed him, he became the gullible immigrant again. Mushtaq was angry about it but he never once made him feel bad that he didn’t pursue it further. Gramps recalls a similar story when he came to the country and reassures Mani, they will put it right.
