Sean and Mary decorate the pub on New Year’s Eve in preparation for the Spanish evening. Sean’s borrowed Brian’s matador costume which is slightly too small and Mary’s thinking of wearing her flamenco number again only she’s lost weight and it doesn’t fit. The only solution is that they swap costumes!
Sandra prepares the buffet for their New Year’s Eve party whilst Kenny does his best not to eat it all before the guests arrive. In view of the team playing an important football match on New Year’s Day Kenny’s given the footballers a warning about heading off into town on a drinking binge and he’s given strict instructions to the doormen working at the city centre establishments to let him know if any players stray onto their patch. Later in the evening, Rozena notices that Sandra keeps looking at the front door and she explains that Darren’s been moved to an open prison and it would be just like him to surprise her with a home visit. Kenny interrupts them to report that the players haven’t been seen around town but Rozena can’t believe he allowed them to visit their local for a drink when they should be at home focusing on their big match tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the pub’s filling up and Sean’s surprised that a few players from Rangers are in and they’re beginning to sound quite raucous as they knock back the vodkas and champagne. A couple of hours later, Mary’s worried that the footballers are getting out of control and instead of throwing them out of the pub decides to ring Rozena to tell her to send someone down to deal with them or she’ll have to call the police. When Kenny finds out that his players are roaring drunk at the Golden Crown, he enlists Jaggy’s help to go and sort them out.
Five minutes to midnight, Sean stops the music and asks the drunken players to leave the pub. Sway senses trouble and backs Sean up when one of the footballers begins to give Sean grief but to their relief the footballers decide to head off into town just as it’s time for the countdown to the New Year.
