Kuljit calls on Ranbir’s grandmother to explain what happened at Ranbir’s educational review meeting. They’ve recommended that he sees an educational psychologist to check if he is dyslexic but Ranbir won’t accept he has a problem. Kuljit’s hoping Basant will be able to persuade him. Basant feels she can’t help though, she’s just an old lady who doesn’t understand the system.
Rita’s still trying to muscle her way into the panto and tries another tactic. She asks Rozena to have a word with Sameer. Rita fancies playing the princess but Rozena tactlessly points out that Widow Twankey might be more suitable! Rozena’s mind is on other things though; there’s a pregnancy test box just waiting to be used. When she tells Rita about it, Rita drags her to the bathroom straight away. While Rozena is taking the test Rita takes a sneaky peek at Sameer’s panto file. Rozena emerges after a while with two tests, and they are both positive. To Rita’s frustration though Rozena doesn’t want to talk about it. She grabs her friend by the shoulders and tells her she’s pregnant and it’s wonderful. It hasn’t sunk in yet though and Rozena wonders what she should tell Sameer. She’s worried that he’ll get his hopes up and she’ll lose the baby again. As Rozena begins to cry Rita hugs her and reassures her that everything will be alright this time, and this time she and Sameer will be in it together, right from the start.
Kuljit decides to tackle the school and try to enlist their help with Ranbir. Unfortunately the Deputy Head isn’t very helpful and refuses to discuss Ranbir with Kuljit as he is not family. Kuljit thinks the school have just washed their hands of the situation and loses his temper. The Deputy Head tells Kuljit he’d better leave before he throws him out.
Kuljit has just reached the school gates when his mobile rings. It’s Nicole, from the mentoring scheme. She’s just had the deputy head on the phone complaining about Kuljit. Nicole is angry that Kuljit overstepped the mark by visiting the school and tells him straight that interfering like that could do more harm than good. If he can’t stick to his contract then he can’t be Ranbir’s mentor anymore!
