Mani is standing outside Westminster tube station listening to a young busker. Mani tells him he used to busk on this very spot and then lapses into memories of the past. He remembers how Stephen invited him to a party and Mani asked if his place was nearby. Mani is jolted back to the present when Ross asks him what is nearby and if he’s OK. Mani says he is fine. It’s his first night back in London and he was just remembering someone. Ross offers Mani addresses of people to stay with but Mani explains he has a brother here.
Four weeks on Mary and Jodie are on train on their way to London to search for Mani. If it wasn’t for Mohit’s call they wouldn’t have known where to begin looking. Jodie is convinced something bad has happened. Mani took off with very little money and didn’t even take his mobile with him.
Mohit fills Jodie and Mary in on Mani’s visit four weeks ago. Mani seemed physically fine but depressed and drunk. Mohit offered support but in response got nothing but rudeness. Mohit swears he said nothing to anger Mani and that he was already angry about something when he turned up. Mohit offered him food and a room to stay in but Mani refused saying he has rich friends from the old days who will be more than happy to help him. Mohit says he went to get a glass of water but when he returned Mani had already gone. Mary and Jodie have no idea that Mohit’s interpretation of events is very different to what really happened. Mohit doesn’t tell them how he accused Mani of being irresponsible and that after a huge row he retracted his offer of letting Mani stay.
Jodie thanks Mohit for at least trying to help. Mohit says he did his best but Mani was past listening to reason. Mary wonders where Mani might have gone. Mohit remembers Mani saying something about an old friend called Stephen. Mohit met him once years ago and still remembers the house although Stephen might not live there anymore. Jodie wonders why Mani would go there of all places. Mary reckons that’s where it all started….
