Simran’s Aunty Jaspal is applying henna to Simran’s hands. Simran wants to pop to the bathroom before getting her feet done but Jaspal protests her hands aren’t dry yet. Simran says she’ll get Jodie to help. As she leaves the room Jaspal shouts out that if Jodie is coming downstairs she should leave her child behind after the mess he has been making. Surinder says children will be children and heads off to check on the food.
Jodie has just got Kesar off to sleep when Simran comes in. Jodie tells her Kesar wanted to come downstairs and dance. Simran feels bad that Jodie is missing out on the wedding preparations. Jodie says its fine but Simran insists she at least come down and get some henna put on her hands besides Simran could do with some moral support. Jodie agrees but adds Simran shouldn’t blame her if Kesar wakes up and comes looking for his ‘mummy’.
Back in the kitchen Jaspal is digging for information about Kesar’s father. She reckons he looks Asian. Is it someone they know? Surinder tries to change the subject but Jaspal persists with her questions constantly referring to Kesar as ‘that boy’. Surinder finally tells her the child’s name is Kesar. Jaspal realises the father is Sikh. Surinder suggests she might ask one of the girls to help with the cooking instead. Jaspal accuses Surinder of treating her like a servant and storms off as Simran arrives. Surinder tells Simran she knew having Kesar here would be a mistake. They need to look like a respectable Sikh family at the wedding tomorrow. It would be in everyone’s best interests if Kesar wasn’t there!
Later Simran rings Jaggy to tell him what Surinder wants. Jaggy says they’ve been through all of this and they agreed Kesar could come as long as he stayed in the background. Its bad enough they have to pretend not to have a child for the sake of the community. Jaggy doesn’t want Simran stressed on her big day. They need to focus on tomorrow and look forward to finally being man and wife. Simran adds – and son….
