Dr Masud has taken to spending his mornings at Saffron Rays chai sessions. Mani brings him some tea and asks what he was just humming; he thought he recognised the ghazal. Dr Masud was in a world of his own and didn’t realise he’d even been humming. Mani leaves him alone with his thoughts and Dr Masud picks up his journal to write some of them down. By the middle of the afternoon he’s still there, engrossed in his writing and decides he may as well stay for dinner. It’s clear he doesn’t fancy going home to an empty house. Mani sits down to keep him company and recites some Urdu poetry he’s been reading. Dr Masud recognises it and joins in. Then Dr Masud continues with another poem. Mani doesn’t know it and asks who wrote it. Embarrassed, Dr Masud explains its something he’s just written. Mani is impressed, they have a poet in their midst! Dr Masud dismisses his compliments but Mani won’t be deterred. Before he can protest Mani’s organised a shairi night later that week with Dr Masud as star guest.
Rita and Roopa log off from their webcam chat with Jas to wish her a happy birthday. Roopa’s jealous of the fantastic time her sister’s having in New York and wonders if she could go next year when she’s eighteen. Rita reminds her that it wouldn’t be much fun as she’d still be too young to hit the clubs and bars Jas was talking about. Rita tells her to forget New York and concentrate on the dinner she’s organising so her and Pradeep can meet Aidan properly. Roopa groans; she’s not looking forward to that!
Fran calls at the Pumpworks and creeps up on Jodie. Shocked to see her old friend she nearly drops the dirty pots she’s clearing. They hug each other tightly and are soon catching up on the last five years since they last saw each other. They decamp to Mani’s house and carry on chatting over a couple of bottles of wine. Fran wants to know all about Jodie’s search for her dad. She’s shocked to learn that Jodie found Mani and has forgiven him after he abandoned her. Jodie explains that he couldn’t have abandoned her because he never knew she existed. So how can she blame him for that?
