Jas feels awkward having dinner with the family after her row with Suresh. Suresh tries to involve her in the conversation about American heroes but she just makes a barbed comment that she’s more interested in current ‘affairs’. Only Suresh gets the point and the family carry on chatting about the Independence Day celebrations at Coney Island tomorrow. Jas continues throughout the meal to have little digs at Suresh. Ambika senses something is wrong and asks Jas if she’s missing home…or Vinnie. Kamla tells everyone how Vinnie keeps calling. Embarrassed Jas tells Ba off for giving Vinnie the landline number. Suresh tells the others to let Jas have her privacy. It’s none of their business he says, for Jas’s benefit.
Suresh gets a call from work halfway through the meal and suddenly he has to dash off. While he says goodbye Jas nips out to ring Greg, telling him angrily she’s convinced it was really Cindy giving him a booty call. Suddenly she feels sorry for Ambika wondering if she knows what’s going on. Maybe that’s why she’s such a bitch. Suresh comes up behind Jas surprising her. He congratulates her for ruining the meal with all those cheap shots. He tells Jas to stop it now, he won’t put up with that from anyone!
Later, back home Jas finds Ambika alone with a large vodka. She pours one for Jas who comments that Ambika spends a lot of time alone. Ambika replies that a little space is good for a marriage and asks if Jas is alright; she’s been very quiet. Ambika remembers how lonely she felt when they first came to America. Jas wonders if she is happy now. Ambika reckons she’s as happy as anyone else. As they drink more Ambika opens up and when Jas mentions the other interns at work Ambika laughs about Suresh and his little harem. Jas tentatively asks if she ever gets jealous about the attractive young girls at the office. Ambika knows exactly what Jas is trying to say and shocks Jas when she tells her that whatever happens at work…it won’t interfere with their relationship. She doesn’t want it spelled out to her though then they both shut up abruptly as Suresh walks in, surprised they are still up. Ambika tells him that Jas had something on her mind but it’s ok, they’ve sorted everything now…
