Mani calls at the café where Ranbir is helping out. He asks about the logo on Ranbir’s T shirt. Ranbir explains it’s a band he likes. Mani doesn’t need an excuse to chat about music and is soon telling Ranbir about his exploits in the sixties. He says he’ll show Ranbir some of his records when he comes to the house. Ranbir is downcast; he doesn’t think Kuljit will be inviting him after the damage he caused in the studio. Mani dismisses his fears; it was an accident and Kuljit knows that. Ranbir is not convinced though, it was a pretty big screw up. Mani tells him a story about how he was arrested when he was younger for obstruction at an anti war rally. Ranbir wonders if he got into trouble with his family. Mani says no and explains that’s the point. Friends and family can forgive you even for big mistakes. Ranbir is still downcast; he isn’t ‘friends or family’. Mani disagrees; Kuljit’s already his friend, and if Ranbir gives him a chance he’ll become family.
Sway pretends to have car trouble for an excuse to call on Zak. Pervaiz overhears them and pops his head outside. When he hears Sway’s on urgent Parkside business he urges Zak to help. Sway takes the opportunity to get Pervaiz on his own, leaving Zak with his head under the bonnet. Sway wants to make peace with Nadia’s mum and dad before they go back to Mirpur. He apologises for letting them down by walking out of his shahada. But, surely Pervaiz can see that everything he’s gone through for Nadia proves he loves her. He assures Pervaiz that he’ll always take care of her. Comforted, Pervaiz agrees to take Sway at his word.
Sway goes back out to Zak who’s identified the problem with car. He can’t work out how the spark plugs got so oily though! Sway chats to him and persuades Zak to give him a lift to get spares…and while he’s at it Zak might as well give him a hand with his Parkside errands. Zak agrees with a laugh, knowing he’s been had. Just then Pervaiz comes out with tea for them both and asks Sway if he’d like to stay for lunch. Sway accepts with pleasure; maybe Nadia’s parents are coming round after all.
