The Akhtars wait in the family room with Fatima’s parents, desperate to help her but unable to do a thing. The consultant arrives and asks to speak to Jamil and Firdos alone. Khatija and Nadia get up to leave but Jamil stops them, he wants them to stay. With difficulty the consultant breaks the news that all the tests show there is no brain stem activity…there is no possibility that Fatima will recover. Her parents plead with the consultant to try again, to get a second opinion but the consultant explains that only the machines are keeping her alive now.
Zak is desperate to find out how Fatima is and repeatedly kicks and bangs on his cell door calling out to anyone who’ll listen. All of a sudden it seems his requests haven’t fallen on deaf ears as an officer appears and leads him away telling Zak they are going to the hospital.
Jamil and Firdos are devastated by the news that they will never see their beautiful daughter alive again. Khatija sees Zak coming towards them, handcuffed to a policeman. Firdos screams at him to keep away, this is all his fault. Jamil calms her though, telling her Zak doesn’t know what’s happened. Zak demands to know what’s going on, he wants to know where Fatima is. Khatija goes to him to break the terrible news.
It’s time for everyone to say their goodbyes to Fatima as she lies unconscious on the life support machine. First her parents sit by their daughter and tell her how much they love her and that they’ll see her again in heaven. Sobbing, they leave the room and Zak, Nadia and Khatija go to sit by the bed. Khatija prays for Allah to protect her daughter-in-law. Nadia tells her how she wished she’d been able to get to know her better. Then they leave Zak to say his final goodbye to his wife. Holding back the tears he tells Fatima how sorry he is that he wasn’t there for her and couldn’t keep her safe. He’s only just found her and now he has to let her go already. He’s scared and doesn’t know how he can carry on without her. Finally he can’t keep back the tears any longer and he sobs as he tells his bride that he loves her.
