The Golden Crown’s under siege from journalists. Bill has taken refuge upstairs in the flat, unable to come to terms with what he’s done. Sean’s finding the atmosphere difficult he tells Kuljit. It wasn’t Bill’s fault, he wasn’t drunk or on his phone. They’ll just have to keep trying to convince him. The police have been going door to door asking questions about Zak and Talib. Sean reckons it’s out of order. Kuljit says that depends if it’s true or not. It seems Sean’s the only one firmly in Zak’s corner.
Bill scours the newspapers for reports on the accident. He shows Mary a story about Zak and Talib being terrorist suspects. He tells her that someone shook his hand earlier; treating him like a hero! He’s struggling to hold it together and going through it over and over again. He wants to go and see Khatija and Pervaiz, or Fatima’s parents. Mary advises him to leave it for a while yet.
A customer starts chatting to Sean as he collects glasses. The customer seems very interested in Zak and Talib though. Sean quickly realises he’s another journalist and tells him to get lost.
Kuljit tells Mary that the police called while he was out and left a card. He doesn’t know what to do. He feels he should talk to them and tell them about the problems at the café when he banned Abyan. Talib organised the Uni crowd to boycott the café saying Jodie and Kuljit were anti Muslim. Mary scoffs at that, it’s ridiculous. On the other hand Kuljit doesn’t want to say anything that might implicate Zak, but he reminds Mary it was Talib who introduced Fatima to Zak. Maybe Zak’s been taken in by both of them! Mary tells him if he feels like that he should talk to the police Just then they hear shouting as Sean has spotted the journalist again and throws him out. All the press and police poking around have brought back memories for Mary; when six people were arrested in Birmingham for the pub bombings. Sean points out that the police got it wrong that time and innocent people spent half their lives in prison. Mary agrees, but she says, someone planted those bombs, maybe someone like Talib…
