Zak sleeps fitfully in his cell, having nightmares about Fatima’s accident. He’s wakened by an officer bringing him breakfast. He tells Zak he’s got ten minutes before they start questioning him. All Zak is worried about though is Fatima.
Talib’s already being interviewed. He’s angry about the way he’s being treated and accuses the police of picking on Muslims. The officer ignores his protests and asks him about Rizwan Hameed, the organiser of the charity Talib was helping. In another interview room Zak is asked the same question. Zak is confused; he’s never heard the name before. Zak can’t concentrate on their questions though because he’s so worried about Fatima. The officer questions Zak about Talib; she wonders how much Zak really knows about his friend. She shows him an email Talib sent to Rizwan which is strongly anti the British government and expresses some radical views. Zak protests that Talib is just an idealist but even he is shocked by some of the words.
Meanwhile the police suggest to Talib that Rizwan Hameed’s charity was a front for illegal activities. Talib is outraged; they were trying to help wounded children. The officer continues to make accusations that Rizwan was funding radical Islamists. He asks Talib about the ‘charity’; can he provide evidence that the money went where he says it did. Talib can’t but explains their priority wasn’t record keeping; it was helping the kids. The police say they have records of emails that he’s sent to some very suspect people. Talib finally loses his temper at their accusations, adding to the police’s view that he’s involved in something dodgy. They ask him about his links with Pakistan and ‘The Tigers of Islam’. Talib claims not to know what they are talking about and accuses them of breaching his human rights by holding him. The police officer puts him straight. He’s being held under the 2006 terrorism act so he’s not going anywhere!
Zak is worn out by the questioning. When the officer asks him about the parcels he received from Pakistan, wedding presents from his mum and dad he realises they’ve been under surveillance for some time. He protests that he’s just an ordinary mechanic…but he starts to wonder just what Talib is involved in.
