Jaggy and Simran brace themselves for Vaisakhi. They are staying with Simran’s parents and Jaggy’s lot are joining them too. Jaggy’s expecting a whole weekend of wedding talk and competitive parents. When they arrive Surinder greets them excitedly with Jaggy’s parents. It’s a while before Pritam arrives and it’s clear he’s in a bad mood. The two sets of parents are soon playing one-upmanship games over everything.
Simran wants to talk about wedding plans. Surinder says she’s already booked the temple for November 15th. Jaggy’s parents think that’s too long to wait but Simran doesn’t seem to be bothered when it is. Gurpreet chastises her; it’s supposed to be the happiest day of their lives. Jaggy backs up Simran though; November will be fine.
The two families keep their distances during the procession. Gurpreet urges Jaggy to phone Jinx to see if he can pull some strings to get them a better date and venue in Manchester. Surinder sees him on the phone and calls Simran over; she’s convinced that Jaggy’s parents are looking down on them and their arrangements. Simran tells her to give it a rest and wants to know why her dad’s in such a bad mood. Just then Jaggy comes over and Surinder questions him about his phone call. Jaggy admits he was calling Jinx, but assures Surinder that they’ll probably be all booked up anyway. Surinder’s furious they’ve gone behind her back.
Simran sneaks off to get her dad on his own, determined to find out what’s troubling him. He sighs and admits that they need some time to save up for the wedding, that’s why they booked it for November. Simran’s shocked, she thought he’d been saving since she was a child. With difficulty Pritam tells his daughter that they spent it all when she and Jaggy split up; on a hot tub and a sauna! He’s so distraught Simran assures him it doesn’t matter, she doesn’t want them scrimping and saving. But Pritam is a proud man and he couldn’t live with himself if he wasn’t able to pay for his daughter’s wedding.
