Kamla’s anxious that her row with Siobhan doesn’t affect her friendship with Mary. Mary reassures her that Siobhan’s a grown woman who can fight her own battles. Neither of them want to fall out just before Kamla goes away. Mary asks Kamla if she’s sure she’s doing the right thing moving in with Ambika; she’s a strong minded woman. Kamla laughs, she’s looking forward to the challenge!
Pervaiz and Khatija have sent some presents for Zak and Fatima with an acquaintance who was returning to England from Pakistan. Mary and Kamla see him calling at the Akhtars and comment on the number of strange visitors Zak has had recently. Kamla tells Mary she’ll be phoning regularly for updates on the local gossip, she doesn’t want to miss out.
Zak phones his parents to thank them for the gifts but tells them off for spending so much, it wasn’t necessary. Pervaiz insists they wanted to welcome Fatima into the family properly and as soon as they return they’ll host a Walima to remember. It makes a change for them to have something to celebrate, with no gossip or rumours. He doesn’t mention Nadia but it’s obvious to Zak that’s what is on his dad’s mind.
Suresh loads the car with all Kamla’s luggage. Ambika supervises to make sure her things don’t get crushed. She’s getting impatient because Kamla’s still missing and its nearly time to go. Jas makes Vinnie promise to visit as soon as she’s settled. Kamla appears just as they kiss goodbye and tells Jas off for behaving like that in public. Then they all pile into the car to head for the airport. Ambika is miffed that she has to squash into the back with all the others while Kamla gets the front seat alongside her beloved Suresh. Soon they are at the departure gate and there are emotional goodbyes as Kamla and Jas head off to America, not knowing when they’ll see Silver Street again.
