Have your say
Rita, Ambika and Kamla relax on the verandah and chat about Ambika’s glamorous lifestyle! Rita’s interested in what Ambika gets up to in New York, but it seems that most of her time is taken up with being a children’s taxi service. She can’t cook for the kids as they won’t eat Indian food, and want to be American like their friends. Kamla’s unimpressed as Rita’s children love Indian food, and suggests Ambika takes some cookery lessons from Pradeep. With that, Ambika makes her excuses and leaves. Kamla’s immediately suspicious – what’s Ambika up to? Probably having an affair! Rita tells Kamla to be quiet, though she admits Ambika must be bored with nothing to do and a husband with no time for her. Kamla’s unsympathetic; if Ambika’s bored she should be with her children.
Jas has gone to the hospital with Suresh, to check up on her Uncle. She’s still suspicious of him using poor Indians for testing, and asks what happens to the patients after the trials, as they won’t be able to afford to carry on their treatment. Suresh argues that the trials are run by doctors who care about their patients. Suresh is pleased that Jas has a questioning mind, and thinks she should meet some patients. She’s amazed at how admired her Uncle is, but doesn’t he think that eradicating poverty’s more important? He asks her to come and listen to him at the conference he’s speaking at later in the week.
Krishan and Arun love the playstation in Suresh’s house, but Roopa’s not impressed – haven’t they noticed they’re in India? They tell her she can hardly talk, texting England all the time, making sure Aidan knows she still exists! Why doesn’t she email instead? She rushes off towards the computer, but is stopped in her tracks by Pradeep, who announces he’s taking them all to the market. The market’s lively, colourful and exciting, though Roopa’s more interested in worrying about catching something! Pradeep tells them they need to stay close to him and not wander off - they all want to look at things in different directions. Krishan’s desperate to look at earrings for his Mum, and says they should have brought her. They’re just about to go, when they realise that Roopa isn’t with them…
