Have your say
Jas helps Mindy deliver the posters for the Partition meeting. She reassures Mindy that her Gran knows about it so everyone will know.
Tariq grabs Kamal from his hovering and tells him to deal with the toilets first. Kamal coughs in disgust as the toilet doors open. Later, Kamal is shocked to discover that he has been working two weeks in hand. Tariq reckons that is reasonable, he could make him do it for a month or two. Kamal says he is qualified as a teacher, not cleaning toilets but Tariq says they have to find money somehow, he’s not the only one that came to the country with dreams. In England, his education means nothing, they have to start at the bottom.
Dr Masud walks in to find Shazia in his house with a load of plants. She got them from the Chelsea Flower Show and they don’t go with her new garden that she has redesigned. She hopes Kamal will look after them.
Mani tells Kamla keeping secrets is dangerous, Rita will find out she’s been visiting Jai. Dr Masud bursts in and complains that now his daughter is back, he won’t be able to watch the cricket in peace. They discuss the Partition meeting and how easy kids have it these days, they know nothing about the struggles their grandparents went through back home.
Shazia thanks Kamal for helping her replant the flowers. She also asks him whether her father has been acting strange recently, leaving the windows open, being forgetful etc. She also tells Kamal not to leave cigarette butts lying behind the bushes.
Mindy gets the meeting started and wants people to put down their memories. Dr Masud reckons it can’t be done in a few lines. Mani suggests they talk and Kamla wants to share experiences. Mindy agrees and separates them into Hindi, Muslim and Sikhs, Mani jokes that it’s just like the Partition again.
Jas and Mindy go through the Partition photos and are shocked at what they find. Mindy is ashamed of knowing so little about it all. She completely misjudged it, she will not let anyone down.
