Rita and Carla visit Mrs Doshi and urge her in vain to talk to them otherwise they can’t help her. When Carla goes to make a phone call Rita appeals to her one more time but Mrs Doshi says there’s nothing to tell. Suddenly though, there are more pressing problems. Carla’s just found out the Doshi children didn’t turn up for school today! They rush round to the flat worried Mr Doshi might have snatched the children. There’s no reply as they ring the bell again and again until Rita calls through the letterbox and eventually Mr Doshi comes to the door, groggy from sleep. He’s shocked to discover the children aren’t at school because they all left as usual, except Ravi who felt unwell. Carla asks to see Ravi. Mr Doshi is reluctant as he’s only just got him off to sleep but he opens the door to his son’s bedroom to show them he’s OK.
Carla is satisfied that Ravi is fine but the other three are still missing and she questions Mr Doshi, making it clear they suspect he had something to do with his wife’s and Ravi’s injuries. Mr Doshi protests that he hasn’t hurt them, have they talked to his wife? Rita explains that his wife won’t talk to them. Bitterly he remarks, of course she won’t tell them what’s going on. Carla presses him to explain but Mr Doshi refuses to say any more. Just then the door opens and Aarti, Haya and Mohindra rush in with their school bags. Everyone’s relieved to see them and the children have to admit they skipped school to visit their mum. Mr Doshi finally realises he needs help so he lets Carla talk to Aarti, the eldest girl, about the foster home. Rita and Carla explain to Aarti that her dad can’t cope and it might be best if they went to live with a foster family. Aarti is suspicious but Mr Doshi assures her it will only be until her mum comes home. As the children tearfully wave goodbye to their dad Aarti bravely takes care of the younger ones as Carla drives them away. Rita finds it all very distressing but Carla maintains that until they know exactly what’s been going on the most important thing is … they must make sure the children are safe.
