Carla has found some possible foster parents and needs Rita’s help again to see if they speak good enough Gujarati. They need to place the Doshi children somewhere they can’t use the language as a secret code. Mrs Patel’s Gujarati passes Rita’s scrutiny and it seems like a lovely place for the children. Mrs Patel is happy to take three of the children but doesn’t think they can manage Ravi as well, despite Carla’s assurance that his brother and sisters will help out. But as Rita and Carla leave she agrees to talk to her husband again. Carla is still trying to convince Rita that taking the children into temporary care is the best thing for them, even if it means Ravi might be split from his siblings. She confides in Rita that she gets the feeling that Mr Doshi really does want help even though he can’t admit it.
Roopa and Bina rehearse in Roopa’s room but they can’t synchronise their dance moves and end up in a heap. They hear the doorbell and Roopa sticks her head out the window to see who it is. When she sees Jai she ducks back in quickly but he’s seen her. He calls up to her so Roopa yells that no-one’s in so he can bog right off! Bina cracks up at her best mate’s cheek, commenting that, for an old bloke, Jai’s not half bad. Roopa nearly throws up at the idea of Bina fancying her Uncle!
Siobhan and Rita head out for a drink. Rita’s grateful for some light relief and they’ve got some catching up to do. They chat away happily until Jai strolls over. Neither of them is pleased to see him and they certainly don’t make him welcome. Jai has skin as thick as an elephant though and calls to Pete to open him a bottle of bubbly and bring over three glasses. Rita rises to the bait and he enjoys goading her further as she rages at him then storms off. Siobhan angrily tells Jai he’s out of order. Jai reckons Rita’s just jealous, that’s all. Siobhan laughs at this, what on earth has Rita got to be jealous of? She’s got family, friends, people who care about her – what’s Jai got?
