Gramps is disappointed Jodie and Nadia haven’t come to church. Sarah points out they aren’t Christian. Sway snaps at him to stop and Shirley reminds them they are here to pray as a family. The pastor starts his sermon using the example of Alice in Wonderland meeting the Cheshire cat to describe how those who walk with God always reach their destination.
Back at the house Jodie offers to help Nadia with the washing up but the conversation is awkward. The ice is broken later when the cat drags in a dead bird and they both agree it’s not a nice cat at the best of times. Jodie wonders how Sway is getting on and Nadia reckons they must have him re-baptised by now! The girls then discuss how Shirley wants Kuls and Sway to sort out their differences. Nadia reckons she can’t see either of them backing down.
Gramps guesses Shirley is quiet because she is missing Clive. She admits it and then says she feels all this business about Sway converting might be her fault somehow. Gramps reckons that’s nonsense. Shirley is the best mother any child could have. Gramps still reckons Nadia should have come but Shirley says its better Sway came alone. It will remind him of what he wants to turn his back on and besides she wants the pastor to have a word with him.
The pastor asks Sway if he enjoyed the sermon. Sway says he only came because Shirley asked him to and reminds him he is studying Islam. The Pastor reckons Christianity offers the same concepts. Does Sway really believe he had a calling from Allah? Sway reckons he has a yearning for something more in his life and this is it. The Pastor says Sway should still feel free to talk to him regardless of the path he chooses.
Sway says he is off to see Qasim and will see them all later. Gramps tells Shirley he warned Qasim to keep away from Sway. Sarah says they need to back off. Even if Sway is converting for the wrong reasons it has to be his choice. Elsewhere Sway tells Qasim he is tired of being treated like everyone’s pet project. Qasim says they will come round in the end. Mind you there’s no stopping Shirley when she reckons she’s in the right about something….
