Have your say

Sway and Nadia arrive at the Holloways for Shirley’s birthday. Gramps has already started on the tipple and starts with his Caribbean charm on Nadia. When Sarah asks Sway where Kuljit and Jodie are, he makes it clear that he and Kuls have not patched up their differences. Shirley opens the Akhtars present and thinks that the headscarf is a gorgeous gift. She insists on sending them a thank you card. However, Gramps makes a bold statement; in that, he hopes the Akhtars don’t expect Shirley to wear it like a Muslim woman.

Sway calls Tracey who is at the restaurant orgainsing the surprise party and she questions Kuljit’s whereabouts. Meanwhile, Gramps tries to touch on Sway’s possible conversion. Nadia very tactfully reminds him that tonight is not the right time. Then as Kuls and Jodie arrive, Gramps directs his charm and sweet talk to Jodie. There is an awkward exchange of hellos between Kuljit and Sway.

As they prepare to leave for the “meal”, Shirley notices that there is tension between Kuljit and Sway and forces them to shake hands. She states that they are brothers, whether they like it or not! In the taxi, they pass the restaurant Shirley was expecting to dine in. Shirley begins to get worried and Sway adds that they are just going for a few drinks before the meal.

Kuljit, Sarah and Sway lead Shirley into the ‘Sweet Spice’ restaurant. Shirley’s heard of the new restaurant and thinks that it’s expensive. The lights are switched off; Gramps and Shirley think that it’s closed. Suddenly, the lights are switched on and there’s an almighty roar as a crowd of people surprise her with ‘Happy Birthday’. Shirley’s overwhelmed to see so many people and Sway adds that Tracey and the other foster children organised the party.

Tracey gives a speech about how all of Shirley’s loved ones all wanted to show her their appreciation. Shirley then in turn gives a speech thinking that all of the foster children had forgotten about her. She then begins to cry and become emotional as the party gets underway. Tracey also notices some friction between Sway and Kuljit and adds that she just wants everyone to get along.
