Doctor Masud, Shazia and the boys are having a night in with a DVD. While the boys search for snacks Dr Masud hears Danyal’s mobile phone. When he tells his grandson, Danyal corrects him, it’s not just a mobile, it’s a Personal Digital Assistant. Rehan jokes about Danyal’s expensive tastes and how their father indulges them.
Danyal texts Arun about a possible magazine feature. Shazia is concerned that Danyal might let journalists know things about his private life. Danyal thinks she’s worried about people finding out he’s gay. Shazia protests he’s got it wrong but can’t tell him her real concerns. Danyal storms out. Shazia is worried when he still hasn’t returned much later but Rehan reassures her Danyal will be fine. Her mind on the real concerns, Shazia quizzes Rehan about his father and begins to open up about how Akram treated her. Gradually it all spills out and Rehan is stunned to find out the truth about his father. Shazia explains about the physical abuse, but how the mental abuse was worse. Rehan can’t understand why his mum stayed with him. Shazia explains she couldn’t leave with two small boys and no career, and how could she tell her father he’d arranged a marriage for her with an abusive husband!
Jodie and Kuljit are at the bowling alley. They hear an altercation and notice Gary arguing with the man hiring out shoes. Jodie comments that Gary’s a nasty piece of work. Kuljit sticks up for him, Gary lost his dad and Kuljit knows how hard that is. Just then a very drunk Danyal approaches them. Seeing the state of him Kuljit points him in the direction of home.
Danyal arrives home right after Shazia’s revelations. He’s still annoyed thinking his mum is ashamed of his sexuality. Rehan tries to quieten him but Danyal’s drunken shouts wake their Granddad. Rehan flies off the handle when Danyal announces he’s going to stay with his dad. He tells Danyal it’s time he knew the truth about his precious father. He was a violent bully and that’s what their mum is afraid of coming out. As Danyal struggles to come to terms with this, Shazia’s father has overheard everything. He pleads with his daughter, please tell him it’s not true…
