Arun gives Rita her birthday present but her joy is short lived when Pradeep gives her leaflets about alternative outlets for her translating work. Pradeep denies he is doing this to get her away from working for the police this. Arun sees an argument brewing and reminds him it’s Rita’s birthday.
Rozena tells Brian her counseling sessions are getting harder. It’s tough leaving with her ‘I’m so together’ face on just so that people won’t treat her like a victim. When Brian goes to order fresh coffees Rozena calls Imran. He tells her he has been to an exhibition with Jas and that she filled him in on the London trip. Imran describes how he would have organized the trip if he was still working at Parkside. Rozena later tells Brian it’s good to see Imran getting out of the house and Jas seems to be good for him. Brian reckons it might also be good for Imran to be with people who don’t know about the attack. Rozena says he is better than he was and they can’t afford to push him.
Pradeep wants to buy Rita a watch for her birthday and she reluctantly picks a cheap one. They make their way to restaurant for lunch and relax as they laugh about the stationery set from Kamla. Pradeep then gives Rita another gift – it’s an organizer for work. He then ruins the mood by joking he couldn’t afford a bullet proof vest. Rita’s phone rings and although it’s Hilary she pretends its Siobhan. Pradeep heads to the bathroom and Rita tells Hilary she’s dreading her meeting with the Superintendent. Hilary assures she’s brilliant at her job and the police will know that. Rita thanks him for his support and hastily ends the call.
Pradeep’s attempt at support doesn’t have the same effect as Hilary. He suggests she try imagining the Superintendent naked on the day. Apparently it’s a trick to make you feel less intimidated. She should also imagine the worst outcome and then she is prepared for anything. Rita admits her biggest fear is going back to being just a mum and housewife. If that happens she doesn’t know what it will mean for any of them……
