Deepak is washing up as Mrs Nathwani shouts at him for not having done the cleaning and laundry yet. Deepak says he needs to send money to his family as they need it but Mrs Nathwani just ignores him.
Rita and PC Higgins drive to the school to deliver their talk. PC Higgins learns how to say a few words in Gujerati. Rita explains that when she started the job, she thought she would be translating documents and interpreting in interview rooms but public speaking is different. Their speech does go well in the end.
Nalini notices that Deepak is upset and has cut his hand. He explains that he’s worried about his sister, she needs money. Nalini says she’ll try and make her mum listen but why did he buy a mobile phone anyway? He needed it to call his family without her listening in. Deepak believes with Nalini being pregnant, it’ll make it easier for them to get a house. She thinks she can’t bring up a baby in a bedsit and he’s not even got his residency. She doesn’t agree with what her mum is doing but she doesn’t like going against her. She owes them a lot, she had an affair with a married man who was a family friend.
Mrs Nathwani catches Deepak on the phone and Nalini tries to defend him. Mrs Nathwani laughs when Deepak says that they are leaving. He gets angry and they struggle with the phone until Mrs Nathwani falls. Nalini goes to help and reckons she needs the hospital but Deepak shouts at her to stop putting it on and now she knows how it feels to be treated badly. Deepak knows Nalini doesn’t want to leave as she keeps making excuses, he explains that he came into the country for her, make her clean again and he’s treated like a servant with everything taken from him. Deepak starts throwing things around the room and hits Mrs Nathwani again whilst Nalini screams at him.
