Kamla has turned up for Kesar’s party even though it’s her own birthday as well. Jaggy arrives with an enormous present for Kesar annoying Simran, who‘s tight enough for space already without a great big fire engine! Simran finds Pete in the kitchen acting as barman. He’s puzzled about all the mysterious phone calls. Simran teases him he has a secret admirer. Jaggy shouts upstairs that Simran’s mother has arrived. Simran’s shocked and quickly cautions Pete to be discreet until she has chance to break it to her mum about him.
Surinder hugs Simran awkwardly, explaining she couldn’t miss her grandson’s first birthday. Surinder sniffily acknowledges Kamla and takes Kesar from her as Kamla leaves. On her way home Kamla bumps into Arun and Mindy and invites Mindy to her birthday lunch. Arun tries to put her off but Mindy eagerly accepts. Afterwards Mindy accuses Arun of being embarrassed because she’s older than him. Arun protests that’s not true so Mindy dares him to prove it and come away with her for a weekend - should she book one room or two?
Back at Kesar’s party it’s all over bar the washing up which Pete has been stringing out until Surinder leaves. While he’s been in the kitchen Simran and her mum have buried their hatchets and realised how much they miss each other. Simran’s dad still hasn’t come round but Surinder thinks he’s mellowing. When Surinder leaves for her B&B Pete finally emerges from the kitchen, happy that Simran and her mum have made things up. When Simran reluctantly confesses that she didn’t tell her mum about him though he flies off the handle as he realises he’s going to have to take a back seat once again. Sometimes he feels like Simran’s just taking him for a ride.
