Episode Synopsis
Friday 22nd September 2006

It's the last day of the trial and Darren is feeling cocky. His brief has ripped all the prosecution witnesses to bits. When he gives his evidence to Miss Patel she paints him as virtually a saint who was led astray. Darren's good friend Jaggy, who he even got his father to offer a job to, is Asian. How can anyone accuse Darren of being a racist.

When they come to the attack on Kamal, Darren lies through his teeth again and recounts a story where Kamal attacked him, he was just acting in self defence and unfortunately Kamal must have banged his head when he fell.

Then it's Mr Walsh's turn to tear Darren's story apart and it's not long before his true character starts to come to light. He sticks to his story but it just doesn't ring true when Mr Walsh describes Kamal's horrific injuries.

Then there is an agonizing wait as the jurors make their decision. Kamal, Nadia and Pervaiz are joined by Jaggy as they go over it all again. Then after three long hours the waiting is over. The Foreman of the jury announces that they find Darren Lester.........Guilty. Darren and Kenny can't believe it, Darren is going down for GBH with intent.

Even though justice has been done, it feels like a hollow victory. Jaggy slinks off with his reputation in tatters and the others worry that Darren's sentence won't take into account the racial aspect of the attack.

Mr Walsh congratulates Kamal on the result and wishes him luck with his asylum appeal. Kamal thanks him for everything and wearily walks away only to be confronted by Darren's dad. Kenny angrily demands his £25,000 back but Kamal can't be intimidated anymore. He tells Kenny simply, the money's gone, he tried to help his family but now his brother is dead.......Darren will come home eventually, but Khalid is gone forever.
