Zenab bumps into Kamal at the pharmacy. She asks him how things are with living at the Akhtars. He feels he is imposing on their good nature as he can't pay his way.
Amrit is watching a documentary but gets interrupted continuously by Kuljit ranting on about how he needs to impress Rachel again - things have been chilly between them since Manisha was around. Before Amrit gets a chance to reply, Kuljit has gone.
Zenab and Kamal chat in the park with a coffee. She asks him about his father. Kamal says his father loved plays but was a farmer by trade. They sold crops and milk until the Taliban men threatened his family and took their land. His dad was a proud man and he thinks about him a lot. His dad taught him to look after himself but he finds it hard sometimes when he has to make decisions alone. Zenab wonders what he means.
Rachel suggests lunch in the park to Kuljit and asks whether Manisha will join them. Kuljit says she's gone and starts to recall a school story about her. Rachel believes she was quite a character and it's good that they still get on; she hasn't kept in touch with anyone from her school days. Kuljit detects a hint of jealousy and teases her. She takes it with good humour and says now she wants lunch alone!
Pervaiz is buying milk from the newsagents. Khatija gets annoyed saying she should be at home to keep an eye on Nadia who is often alone with Kamal. They have their reputation to consider and they can't keep him forever. Pervaiz reminds her Kamal is their friend and not a charity case. Khatija insists that they can't afford to keep a lodger who can't pay his way and if he's getting better, he doesn't need to stay any longer.
