Kamla walks in to find Jai and Rita fighting and wants to know what's going on. Pradeep tells the children to go upstairs so Rita can talk to Kamla, they can eat later. After a lot of complaining they all troop upstairs. Jai tries to get in first, telling Kamla that this is all because of Kamla's money, if it means that much to Rita she can have it. All Jai wants is for the family to get on. Rita protests that it's nothing to do with the money but Kamla won't listen. Pradeep defends Rita; she has got something important to tell Kamla.
Jai is saved by the bell, there's someone at the door for him. He's not happy when he sees who it is though, it's Rob and he wants to talk to Jai about missed payments.
Rita tries again, backed up by Pradeep and Uncle Rajan. Kamla doesn't want to listen to Rita bad mouthing Jai, it sounds like she hates him. Rita says she doesn't hate him, they used to be close. She tells Kamla how they used feel as children; they always came second to Suresh. Jai was made to feel a failure compared to him. Jai gradually changed and they grew apart. Kamla won't accept that they favoured Suresh, and what has that got to do with all this anyway? Rita says she wants Kamla to know that she isn't telling her this out of spite for Jai....she just can't keep it to herself any longer. Rita finally tells Kamla about Jai's involvement in the post office robbery. At first Kamla won't listen, his friends must have betrayed him, Rita is lying, but Pradeep confirms it's the truth. It was Jai's fault that Bapu ji was hurt. Finally, Kamla breaks down in tears; she can't make excuses for Jai any longer.
