Kamla phones Rita to talk some sense into Uncle Rajan, he won't take his medicine, but Rita is anxious to ring Mary to see if Sean got back in time. She is relieved to find out he did. Rita goes to tell Pradeep and is astonished to find him chatting to her college lecturer, Hilary who by coincidence has moored behind them. Hilary invites them all over for dinner, Pradeep says they would be delighted although Rita is obviously reluctant, she wishes now she had packed more than just old jeans and tops.
It becomes clear why Uncle Rajan is being difficult. He is convinced that Jai is trying to get rid of him and has got Kamla in league with him. When Kamla catches him ordering a takeaway and wants to know why he won't eat her food, Uncle Rajan practically accuses her of trying to poison him.
At dinner, Rita is on edge but Hilary and Pradeep get on like a house on fire. They like the same music and Hilary plays something on his guitar, he even offers Pradeep lessons. Arun, becoming annoyed by Hilary, is rude to him. He accuses his mum of putting on airs to impress Hilary. Pradeep, fed up with his behaviour, tells him to go. On his way out Arun bumps into Jas who lets him into a secret, she's writing an article about their holiday for the paper. When Rita appears to call Jas in for dinner she asks Arun why he was so rude to Hilary. Arun becomes angry and tells her he saw them together at the club. Rita protests that he is mistaken, they were only chatting, she is annoyed he could think that of her. Arun is persuaded and apologises to his mum.
