Jodie and Mani are hurriedly boarding the train for Newcastle. Jodie thinks that Mani is overstretching himself but Mani won't listen. Their journey reminds him of his trip to Wales in 1968 with the Beatles and friends - he almost missed the train then too.
It was that trip that gave him his second chance with Stella. They were taking a course on transcendental meditation and Mani remembers how he asked Stella to go for a walk with him. From the first time he saw her he knew she was special; that she understood him. He had let everyone's attention go to his head but, with Stella's help, he wanted to start living more honestly, and Stella agreed to be with him.
Mani tells Jodie how Stella always got stuck into things like marches and protests. Meanwhile, he kept on with his music but by '73 it was already fading away. He toured a lot to make some money and fell back into his bad habits. It was hard on Stella but he still loved her and wanted to make it work, so they moved to the Midlands. Stella wanted to get him away from London and ground him in the real world and they decided to set up a restaurant. But Silver Street was never his choice and he always blamed Stella for taking him away from his career - he made her life a misery.
Mani breaks down - he doesn't want to tell Jodie these things but if he doesn't, she won't understand why Stella lied to her about him knowing she existed. Mani says he had no idea where Stella went when she left him. Letting her go was a terrible mistake and he swears to Jodie he'll never do the same to her...
