Kuljit and Sway stagger off the night bus and make their way to Kuljit's old house. Kuljit lets himself in through a window. The house is a total mess and there's rubbish everywhere. Kuljit remembers exactly where everything was - he was sitting just there on the sofa when the psychiatrist first came...
He was so scared that day his hands were shaking. He was translating for the doctor, telling him what his dad was saying about evil spirits, but now he can see didn't explain it properly. After that visit the doctor came back a couple more times, then he was taken into care and his dad was sectioned.
Sway is jumpy and a noise on the window makes him start - but it's just a branch outside. Kuljit notices the phone and picks it up but it's dead. It makes him think of the time the doctor called the house and asked to speak to a grown up. His dad refused to talk and so the doctor spoke to Kuljit instead. He told him his mother was dead.
Mind you, says Kuljit, the funeral was worse. All Auntie Rajvinder was worried about was that Amrit's behaviour might tarnish the family. She said he had the evil eye. No-one would listen to Kuljit when he tried to explain what was really wrong with his dad. And then Auntie Rajvinder and co turned up at the house with a Baba Ji to "cure him". They wouldn't let Kuljit upstairs and all he could hear was his dad shouting for them to go. The Baba Ji said his dad was just depressed but they didn't believe him. Kuljit is overcome by his memories and tells Sway he wants to leave...
