Rita accuses Jai of coming back after all this time because he knows Kamla is selling up her assets in India and he is after her money. She then asks if Jai has a guilty conscience after visiting all his old haunts - don't they remind him of his past mistakes and failures? Rita decides to refresh Jai's memory starting with examples of how he used to treat their father.
Rita reminds Jai of when he was a teenager and got into a fight. Their dad (Mukesh) was really angry although Jai claimed he was defending himself. Mukesh told Jai he'd end up on the 'dung heap' but Jai said he would rather that than end up like his father. And what about the time they worked in their father's post office and Mukesh told Jai to learn the value of work or he'd never achieve anything. Jai responded by putting Mukesh down about his own achievements.
Jai tells Rita she has a very selective memory. She seems to have forgotten how Mukesh treated both of them. Remember the time when their brother Suresh qualified as a doctor and Mukesh really went to town on the 'our brilliant son' routine and suggested neither Rita or Jai were as gifted? Back then even Rita thought Mukesh was wrong. Remember?
Rita agrees that their father was unfair but tells Jai he isn't off the hook. She blames him for ruining her life. Jai says it must be awful being happily married with four kids, nice house, new career.....he really has ruined her life hasn't he? That's just it says Rita - this isn't the life she wanted......
