It's finally the day of Roopa's birthday and Rita is frantically trying to prepare a surprise family dinner before the main party later. Arun and Krishan are bickering and getting under her feet. Rita tells them to shut up - NOW.
Kamla collects Roopa from school and when they get back Roopa points out she is 14 and doesn't need walking home. She opens her presents and eventually enters into the spirit of things. Rita is touched by the 'family' moment and tells Pradeep how wonderful it is to see the kids growing up. Kamla agrees - she is proud of Rita and Pradeep. This sets Rita off again. That's the nicest thing Kamla could have said.
Later, Roopa drags Jas into her room under the pretence of needing help to get ready. She needs Jas to get Kuljit to come to the party as her special guest. Jas finds the whole thing funny but tells an overjoyed Roopa she will see what she can do.
Jas finds Kuls playing football in the park and puts her 'difficult and embarrassing' proposition to him. Kuls says he can't do it but Jas persuades him to put his head round the door for ten minutes and he reluctantly agrees.
Roopa's party guests have started to arrive. Rita and Pradeep lay down the house rules before they go out. No drinking, no trashing the house and no kids in bedrooms. Jas finally gets them to go and as soon as the door shuts Arun tells his audience to make some noise.......
