Stepping into the spotlight
He's better known for his singing and dancing in colourful pop group Steps, but now H - real name Ian H Watkins - is making his way as an actor. And his first role in radio was in Silver Street!
Ian spent his 30th Birthday at our studio in Birmingham, recording scenes for a special 'adventure week', which aired between Monday 12th and Friday 16th June.
Ian played Dave, a survival skills expert who runs adventure weeks for inner city youths in the Welsh countryside. Dave puts a bunch of kids from the Parkside Centre - including Arun, Sean and Zak - through their paces.
Since leaving Steps, Ian has retrained as an actor at the Royal Academy of Music, and in New York, but Silver Street gave him his first chance to discover the particular skills of radio acting.
