Asian Nation: My life, my roots, my music

Your Stories

pankaj

my identity

By: pankaj

British Asian, two words which blend the culture and people of two different continents. I am very proud of myself as being fortunate one to be an Asian and British. The word Asian reminds me of all that hard work and blood of those who came and settled here in extreme conditions from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Every time I get carried away with British culture and its influence on me, my Asian tag reminds me of my roots and my values which I should never forget and must pass on to next generation.

I think there is nothing wrong to be British; we are born here, brought up here so British culture is going to play its part in out lives but in this all we should not forget the fact that no matter what we say and we do but we are different. We have our own identity as Asian. We should respect the values and religion which is given to us by our Asian community and should pass on to the next generation but that don’t mean that we need to be super religious and become orthodox just be what you are take pride in your religion and your home country.

I think as the third generation of British Asians its our responsibility to make sure that our religion should not become a hindrance for other minorities to join hands with us we should be more flexible open minded towards life and reason of our faith . I love my country, I respect my faith in short I am a proud British ASIAN.
