Jaheeda Choudhury
By: Jaheeda Choudhury
My name is Jaheeda Choudhury, I live in Manchester and would describe myself as many things including an actor, an artist and an activist
There are lots of things that are important to me from my family to work, my general surroundings, and making sure I am healthy. I think a lot of that comes from when I am happy around my family.
My work gives me a lot of satisfaction. It's great to work in the creative arts. I feel that I live to work, I love doing what I do, it makes me buzz, it's the best high. Anyway, I have been fired from everything else I've ever done. If you look around today's media, you've got all sorts of different kinds of Asians - we are everywhere. There are some parents that still want their children to be doctors and lawyers, that's cool, they just want us to be successful, so if we are successful in the arts, they will be happy about it.
That's one of the key things about British Asian families, it's about the measure of success and how well you are doing in your job, so that's what it is for my family Music is getting more and more important to me, and every day I find out more about my own musicality. I listen to all sorts from Indie to Rock to Rap to Bollywood. I don't know artist names at all - I just know I like a beat when I hear it, or a melody. It could be anything from Bollywood.
